In order to ride the school bus pupils are required to attend the school service area in which they reside. However, in order to meet the needs of individual students, attendance variances may be approved outside of the open enrollment period in the following situations:

  1. A bilaterally approved (by agreement between a pupil's sending and receiving school principal) building principal recommendation, or
  2. A secondary student's request to enroll in a course of study not offered at the assigned school, or
  3. An elementary student's request for an open facility school or self-contained classroom program not offered at the assigned school, or
  4. A student request to attend or not attend a school with a sibling, or
  5. A school psychologist recommendation for a student change of environment.

In cases where a variance is approved, transportation to and from school becomes the responsibility of the parent or guardian. All requests for variances must have the approval of the parent or guardian.
