Detention of Students

File: JGB

A school administrator or teacher may detain a student for disciplinary reasons after school hours, provided the parent has been notified of the detention and, in the case of bus students, arrangements have been made for the student's transportation home. In cases where transportation is required, 24 hour notice shall be given so that transportation may be arranged.

Parents may be asked to arrange for the transportation of the detained student. However, if the parent cannot or shall not provide it, an alternative disciplinary procedure must be substituted.

Students who are detained after school must never be left alone during their detention. Their supervision must be provided, or arranged for, by the teacher or administrator who detains them.

After school detention on any one day is to be limited to 40 minutes.
